Am I Ready to Buy a Home in San Jose? Take the Free 2-Minute Assessment

If you've been asking yourself "am I actually ready to buy a house," you're not alone. It's one of the most common questions I hear from Bay Area buyers — and honestly, it's a smart question to ask before you start touring open houses.

The truth is, "ready" doesn't just mean having a down payment saved up. It's a mix of timing, financing, and knowing what you're looking for. So I built a free, 2-minute assessment that walks you through exactly that — and gives you a personalized readiness score at the end.

Why I Built This

After 30+ years helping Bay Area families with mortgages, I've noticed the same handful of questions come up again and again, whether someone's buying their first home in San Jose or looking at a move-up purchase in Los Gatos. So instead of making you dig through blog posts to find your answers, I put the most important questions in one place.

What the Assessment Actually Covers

It's six quick questions, no credit check involved:

  1. Your timeline. Are you looking to move in the next 3 months, or just starting to explore?
  2. Your price range. Santa Clara County has a wide range, and knowing roughly where you land helps point you toward the right loan programs.
  3. Where you stand on financing. Already pre-approved? Just started the conversation? Paying cash?
  4. Your estimated credit score. A ballpark is fine — this isn't a credit pull.
  5. Your situation. First-time buyer, move-up buyer, downsizing, investor, or using home equity.
  6. Where you're looking. Local market conditions vary block by block in the Bay Area.

What Happens After You Finish

You'll get an instant readiness score along with a short, honest read on where you stand. Either way, I'll personally follow up within one business day. No call center, no automated drip campaign — just me.

A Few Honest Truths About "Readiness"

  • You don't need 20% down. That's one of the most persistent myths out there. Depending on the loan program, you may qualify with significantly less.
  • Pre-approved and pre-qualified are not the same thing. A pre-qualification is a quick estimate. A pre-approval means a lender has actually verified your financials.
  • Your credit score matters less than you think, and more than you'd guess. It affects your rate, not necessarily your ability to qualify at all.

Take the First Step

Whether you're three months out or still just curious, the assessment takes less time than reading this post did.
